President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has called on journalists to exercise professionalism in line of their duties.

Dr. Chakwera has said this on Saturday 3rd May during break-fast morning marking the World Press Freedom Day taking place in Mzuzu.

Members of press under media institute of southern Africa-MISA Malawi have joined media fraternity around the world in commemorating the day under the theme “Journalism to support the election process.”

In his address Dr. Chakwera said he distinguishes the important role that journalists play in disseminating information on national interest issues to the public.

He emphasized on the need for media and government to work in collaboration in order to achieve common development agenda.

The Malawi leader appealed to journalists to maintain ethical standards of their professional such as balance, fairness and being objective in order to build Malawians trust as the trusted source of information.
