President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has asked the ministry of mining to review strategies in promoting mining sector in the country.
Dr. Chakwera said this during the official opening of a 2 day Malawi Mining investment Forum (MMIF2025) slated from 28th to 29th April 2025 at BICC in Lilongwe.
In his address President Chakwera said much as the Expo will help the stakeholders to discuss ways to improve the sector, the ministry should take heed of some unscrupulous miners which their aim is to manipulate the whole sector.
On his part, Minister of Mining Ken Zikhale Ng’oma promised to take a bold step against corruptive individuals as this compromise the whole sector.
Ng’oma has emphasized the need to involve the youths and women to fully participate in providing expertise and innovation on the use of minerals in manufacturing local products such as batteries.
Meanwhile mining forum president Maxwell Kazako said the country will benefit a lot with the regulatory frame work government has put in place to manage the mining sector.
