The tobacco commission (TC) has expressed satisfaction with the increase of tobacco volumes at the selling floors as marketing season continues.
Tobacco Commission spokesperson Telephorus Chigwenembe said by 25 April 14 million kilograms valued at 31.9 million dollars was sold at an average price of 2.28 dollars per kilogram compared to the same period last year when 20.1 million kilograms valued at 53.7 million was sold at an average price of 2.67 dollars per kilograms.
Chigwenembe said the increase volumes of tobacco will help to ease purchasing of the commodity as resources will be readily available in large quantities.
But commenting on the development one of the economic expert Marvin Banda said it is high time the country turn to other ways of boosting the economy rather than depending on tobacco alone.
